Job Summary

As Group Internal Control Manager, you will be responsible for strengthening the Group’s internal control environment and supporting the identification, assessment, monitoring, and mitigation of operational, financial, regulatory, and enterprise risks across all subsidiaries. The role ensures adherence to internal policies, regulatory requirements, and best practices while promoting a strong risk-aware culture across the Group.

Job Details

Internal Control

  • Design, implement, and continuously improve internal control frameworks across all business units and subsidiaries.
  • Conduct periodic internal control reviews and operational audits to assess effectiveness and compliance with approved policies and procedures.
  • Identify control gaps, process weaknesses, and inefficiencies; recommend practical corrective actions and monitor remediation.
  • Review financial and operational processes to ensure accuracy, completeness, and integrity of records.
  • Support management in embedding controls within business processes, products, and new initiatives.
  • Prepare detailed internal control reports and dashboards for senior management and relevant committees.

Risk Management

  • Support the identification, assessment, and documentation of operational, financial, regulatory, and enterprise risks across the Group.
  • Maintain and update the Group Risk Register, including risk ratings, controls, and mitigation plans.
  • Perform risk assessments on new products, processes, systems, and strategic initiatives.
  • Monitor key risk indicators (KRIs) and escalate emerging risks to management in a timely manner.
  • Support business units in implementing risk mitigation strategies and control enhancements.
  • Participate in business continuity planning and stress testing exercises where applicable.

Governance & Compliance Support

  • Ensure alignment of internal controls and risk practices with regulatory requirements (SEC, CBN, NAICOM, PENCOM, NGX, etc., as applicable).
  • Support regulatory examinations, internal audits, and external audits by providing required documentation and responses.
  • Track audit findings and ensure timely closure of action points.
  • Promote adherence to Group policies, codes of conduct, and governance standards.

Advisory & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Provide advisory support to business units on control and risk-related matters.
  • Collaborate with Compliance, Internal Audit, Finance, IT, and Operations teams to strengthen the control environment.
  • Contribute to management and board committee papers relating to internal control and risk matters.
  • Identify risks, design mitigation strategies, and present findings to boards, investors and regulators.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
  • Professional certification such as ICAN, ACCA, CIA, CISA, CRISC, or FRM is an added advantage.

 

KNOWLEDGE & PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum of 8–12years’ experience in Internal Control, Risk Management, Internal Audit, or Compliance, preferably within financial services.
  • Strong understanding of risk management frameworks, internal control principles, and regulatory expectations.
