Job Summary

The Credit Risk Officer is responsible for identifying, assessing, monitoring, and mitigating credit risk arising from the bank’s lending activities. The role ensures that all credit decisions align with the bank’s risk appetite, regulatory requirements, and internal credit policies.

Job Details

  • Review and analyze loan applications to assess borrowers’ creditworthiness.
  • Conduct credit risk assessments, including analysis of financial statements, bank statements, cash flows, and repayment capacity.
  • Ensure compliance with approved credit policies, procedures, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Monitor loan portfolio performance and flag early warning signs of potential default.
  • Prepare credit appraisal, risk assessment, and monitoring reports for management review.
  • Participate in loan review meetings and provide risk-based recommendations.
  • Track delinquent accounts and support recovery efforts by providing risk insights.
  • Maintain accurate credit risk records and documentation.
  • Support periodic stress testing, portfolio reviews, and risk reporting.
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders to strengthen credit risk controls.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Banking, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2–4 years’ experience in credit analysis, risk management, or lending within a microfinance bank or financial institution.
  • Professional certifications (e.g., ACA, ACCA, ICAN, CRM) are an added advantage.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

  • Strong credit analysis and financial assessment skills.
  • Good understanding of microfinance products and credit risk management principles.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements for microfinance banks.
  • High attention to detail and strong analytical thinking.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and report writing.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • High level of integrity and sound judgment.
